Pretty Little Liars: 3×03 “Kingdom of the Blind”

Creepy Lucas. This is the first episode this season we’ve really gotten to hear from Lucas. And he’s not doing so well. I’m not sure what has gotten him to spiral down so quickly. After going to visit Mona and basically dropping it in hints to Caleb, its getting pretty obvious that Lucas is on the A-Team. I’ve posted before that I think he joined after being constantly rejected by Hannah. His interactions with her tonight aren’t making me change her mind.

Jenna Thing. Between Lucas basically wearing an A-Team sweatshirt and Jenna being followed by the Liars, it seems as if these A-Team members are getting very careless.

Yes, I still think Jenna has something to do with the A-Team. Girl was lying about being able to see, I don’t see why she wouldn’t be lying now. Out of everyone, she has the most reason to hate all of the Liars. I’m sure we’ll see more about her connections to the A-Team and possibly Allison’s murder.

Baby Fever. So Melissa is lying…again. But why would she lie about when she had her miscarriage? Unless she was never pregnant. Or if she gave the baby up for adoption. I can’t see her doing that though. Perhaps Melissa had her miscarriage long ago and was pretending to be pregnant as a cover-up. Perhaps she is the Black Swan. There’s a lot more here to explore and I can’t wait to see where it goes. We can add Melissa into the group of crazy bitches on this show.

“A” Watch. So Mona is clearly crazy but I think she also knows exactly what she is doing. That’s the most dangerous kind of crazy person. She clearly doesn’t like Caleb and resents him for coming in between her and Hannah. Watch out Caleb, she might send the A-Team after you.

As for the new “A” (who was busy keeping her vodka on ice with Allison’s body during craft time) is the the first episode where the girls haven’t gotten an “A” text/threat. This new “A” is slacking a bit. I guess it was “A” who sent the note to the school about Ella’s favoritism for Emily. But Ezra scooped in to save the day there.

So either this new “A” is complacent or she is coming up with something really good. It’s most likely the second one.

Pretty Little Liars: 3×02 “Blood is the New Black”

Another great episode from Pretty Little Liars. Season 3 sure is starting out strong. Here’s a deeper look at some of the mysteries.

A for Affair? So the new “A” set her sights on Aria by sending an earring that Aria had left in Allison’s grave. (Also, the teeth necklace, very gross. This “A” sure isn’t messing around). The earring made Aria tell the others how she and Allison had trashed her father’s office, framing Meredith, the woman he was having an affair with. Aria eventually coughed up the truth to her father as well.

Now, Meredith told Aria that earring wasn’t hers. Which could lead to three options. 1) Meredith is lying. 2) Byron was having another affair. 3) Allison planted the earring. I don’t think the first option comes into play. Meredith would have no reason to lie, its not like everyone doesn’t already know about the affair. My best guess is Allison planted the earrings so she and Aria could have some fun trashing the office. It totally seems like something she would do.

Side note, how awful was it that Byron made Aria apologize to Meredith? I don’t remember Meredith ever apologizing to Aria for having an affair with her married father!!

Now it would seem that only Allison and Aria ever knew about this office trashing. This would help support my Allison is alive theory. Except that we already saw that Mona/the A-Team has Allison’s journals. She easily could have written about it there, causing the new “A” to know about it. Regardless, I still think Allison/or someone that looks like her is alive. And running around in a red jacket.

Bitch Can See. Is it just me, or was Jenna really careless with the fact that she can now see. I mean as if driving a car around weren’t enough of a giveaway, she was acting more blind than last year, taking off her sunglasses to look at things and picking up an earring when she didn’t even know if anyone else was in the bathroom! Maybe being blind, Jenna forgot that everyone can see what she’s doing! It’s like she wanted the PLL to catch her. And just as I thought, it was Jenna driving the convertible that took Emily to the graveyard that night. I’m surprised Emily remembered so quickly and that the girls found out Jenna can see after only her first episode back. What will they do with this information?

“A” Watch. Mona remained mostly silent, until she asked if Hannah was getting the text messages again. Clearly, this was either preplanned or someone else is coming to see Mona and giving her information. We saw someone in red come and visit her at the end of last season. Maybe Mona is still very much part of the A-Team.

Pretty Little Liars: 3×01 “It Happened That Night”

Pretty Little Liars returned in fine form for season 3! The girls being in the cemetery the night Allison’s body was taken is clearly the new Jenna Thing. How long will this secret stay under lid? I dig deeper into the episode, looking at the key mysteries and actions of the so called A-Team.

Emily…Secret “A”gent? I’m worried that Emily didn’t spent her summer in building houses but was actually being brainwashed into becoming some sort of sleeper agent. Two mysterious phone calls (one from Spencer’s phone) got Emily to end up over Allison’s dug up empty grave holding a shovel. Later, Emily started to remember things, including being in a convertible. Didn’t we see Jenna driving a convertible in last season’s finale? Not a lot adding up and I’m interested to see what Emily remembers (or what she does next time she gets drunk).

Allison’s Missing…Again. So Allison’s remains are taken just before a judge can order them exhumed for some reason in Garrett’s murder case. We did actually see Allison in the episode. Well actually Mona did, sitting in her red jacket. All this is leading me to my latest Allison theory.

Now, I’ve never read the books the series is based on, but in those books Allison has a twin that is involved as “A”. Of course the tv show is making changes from the books but I think something close to that is happening here. I think there is another girl that looks like Allison (aka her twin). Now either the twin died and the real Allison is alive, or Allison died and the twin is now running around. And I believe either Allison or the twin is the one really calling the shots as “A”. She’s the one that visited Mona at the end of last season. And she’s the one that loves to wear red jackets. Regardless, I think someone with Allison’s face is really calling all the shots.

A-Team Assemble. I don’t know why Spencer is so surprised that Mona had help carrying out her “A” actions. Didn’t Mona basically spell it out to her that there was an A-Team? At least the girls now know, after getting a new text message from “A” and having Spencer’s car filled with pictures of them at the cemetery.

So who could be on the A-Team? I think the usual “A” suspects still apply. Melissa was seen on the tape and did not like Allison (also did we find out if she had Ian’s fetus yet?). Not-blind Jenna is surely up to no good and almost connected to everyone. It seems more likely that Garret was just the fall guy and not actually behind the A-Team. And Lucas is becoming more creepy by the moment, sneaking around late at night (maybe he dug up Allison’s body). I said before that I don’t think Lucas was a member of the A-Team when we first met him, but snapped after becoming rejected by Hannah far to many times. Many people to watch and most of them weren’t even in the episode.

“A” Watch. A regular heading from my PLL Rewatch Posts, its not as hard to keep track of “A” now that Mona’s locked away in the nuthouse. I think she’s most likely faking her heightened condition. And “A” still likes to be all knowing, as we saw Mona get out of her bed to eavesdrop on Hannah and Wren. Something tell me the A-Team might have planted her right where they want her.

The Pretty Little Liars Rewatch

Pretty Little Liars returns for season 3 in three days! To tide you over while you wait, why not take a look back at the first season. My rewatch looked at episodes now that we know Mona is “A”, while also trying to guess who might be a part of the A-Team. I wanted to get to season 2, but there just wasn’t enough time in between the seasons. But with season 3 starting, I think I’ll do a weekly recap looking at the mysteries of the show and all the “A”/A-Team stuff.

After you’ve gone through the rewatch, if you really can’t wait, the first ten minutes of the premiere have been posted online (and I’ve posted it below after the jump). It already looks really good.

Pretty Little Liars Rewatch: 1×22 “For Whom the Bell Tolls”

After the “Pretty Little Liars” season 2 finale where *SPOILER ALERT* Mona was revealed to be “A”, I’m taking a look back at the previous episodes to track the actions of “A” now that we know it’s Mona.

Episode 1×22 “For Whom the Bell Tolls”

Spencer runs into Ian at church. Let’s just say he’s not acting very holy.

The Jenna Thing. How do these girls not suspect that Jenna had something to do with Allison’s murder. They corner Jenna, who finally admits that Allison visited her the day before she disappeared/was murdered. Allison showed (or let Jenna listen to) the videos she had found of Jenna admitting to Toby that she would lie about their relationship. Allison told Jenna she would keep the videos private as long as Jenna kept quiet about “The Jenna Thing”. And that Jenna couldn’t return to Rosewood.

Jenna told the PLLs this and yet they still think she had nothing to do with Allison’s murder! She has the perfect motive for wanting Allison dead! Allison was blackmailing her and the next day she went missing! And Jenna returned the very day of Allison’s funeral, finally able to return to Rosewood. I don’t see how the girls can be so clueless about Jenna’s involvement. She might be blind, but she’s not totally incapable.

Lucas Makeover? When Mona sees that Lucas is upset that Hannah is hurting over Caleb leaving town, she tells him her mean girl behavior was just her having fun. She was surprised to see that Lucas genuinely cared about Hannah. She then offers to take him under her wing, giving Lucas a full image makeover so that he might be able to win Hannah once and for all.

We don’t see Lucas take Mona up on this offer, but I believe this is the moment when Lucas started to work with Mona. Or at least be open to the idea. I’ve said for the whole season, it didn’t seem like Lucas and Mona were getting along. It could have all been an act, but I don’t think so. No, I think Lucas was a late addition to the A-Team.

“A” Watch: So Ian admits to Spencer that he killed Allison. Of course he claims to have hit her, while Spencer said Allison died of suffocation. I think this only further shows that more than Ian had a hand in Allison’s murder. We see Jenna call him about the videos the PLLs found and there’s also a connection between Jenna and Garrett. How many people actually killed Allison? As big of a bitch as she was to everyone, it wouldn’t surprise me if eventually half the cast was found guilty of her murder.

Just as Ian was about to push Spencer off the bell tower, a black hooded figure shows up to save Spencer. Ian has just a moment to ask “what are you doing here?” before “A” pushes Ian, causing him to be hung in the ropes.

So Mona saved Spencer while nearly killing Ian. It was clear by Ian’s question that he recognized it was Mona intervening. But he didn’t seem to know what she was doing at the church. This leads me to further believe that Mona was not working with Ian. Ian might have had a part of Allison’s death, but I don’t think he was part of the A-Team. Mona nearly killing him shows that she has no ties to him.

Why save Spencer? Maybe if only to further torment her and the other PLLs. Before the police can clear the scene, “A” took Ian’s body, making the girls look like liars. Now how did tiny little Mona get Ian’s body out of that church. For that I would think she would need some more help. Perhaps the help of freshly recruited A-Team members?

Pretty Little Liars Rewatch: 1×21 “Monsters in the End”

After the “Pretty Little Liars” season 2 finale where *SPOILER ALERT* Mona was revealed to be “A”, I’m taking a look back at the previous episodes to track the actions of “A” now that we know it’s Mona.

Episode 1×21 “Monster’s in the End”

Yet another town event! And the girls discover what Allison kept in her lunchbox.

That’s not Allison’s lunch. This episode dealt a lot with the betrayal of Caleb. Apparently, Jenna hired him to find something Allison gave one of the girls. A key. None of the girls know what this is, until Emily finds the key hidden away in the snowglobe Allison had given her the day she went messing (I thought snowglobes was Jenna’s thing!). The key leads the girls to a storage unit, where they find Allison’s old lunchbox. Inside is a jumpdrive, containing multiple videos of all the girls. Someone has been watching them for a long time. And Allison knew it.

Interesting that Jenna knew about the storage unit. Also interesting that Allison had time to hide the jumpdrive and leave Emily a key to it. It’s almost as if she knew she was going to die. Or was that just her safety net, so in case something did happen to her, the person would get caught?

“A” Watch: Mona was acting very “A” like in this episode without even having to be “A”!

It’s obvious Mona is very protective of Hannah. When she learns that Hannah and Caleb aren’t together, she instantly starts bashing him. She even tells Hannah, “I hate seeing you get hurt.” Yeah, we don’t really believe that Mona, not after you hit Hannah with a car!

Later, when Caleb shows up to give Hannah a letter explaining that he is leaving town, Mona takes the letter and tears it up. And even dumps a slushy on it! All in the name of protecting her friend. But really, I can see that Mona just wanted to get Caleb out of the picture. He was just another person pulling Hannah away from her. With Caleb gone, Hannah could return to her BFF Mona. Mona claims she did this all in the name of wanting to help Hannah, but really she wanted to help herself. And she didn’t even have to use “A” to do it.

At the end of the episode we see “A” take the spare key to Mr. Fitz’s apartment. Oh Mona, let’s leave the english teacher alone. He’s got enough problems dealing with Aria.

Finale Watch: Glee “Goodbye”

I said many weeks ago that I thought all of the graduating Glee seniors should not only pack it out of the school, but also pack it out of the show. However, it still doesn’t seem as if the show is taking my advice. Let’s break down some highlights (or lowlights) from the finale of this up-and-down show.

Did Rachel Screw over Kurt? So after the graduation ceremony, the trifecta of Kurt-Rachel-Finn gathered together to open the letters to their respective schools. While Kurt and Finn were rejected, Rachel managed to get into NYADA. Rachel, the girl who bombed her first audition and had to leave Whoppi Carmen Thibodeaux multiple phone messages just to get her to come see her again at Nationals.

So clearly Rachel got in on the strength of her nationals performance. But why didn’t Kurt, who seemed to nail his first audition? Maybe because Carmen Thibodeaux showed up to watch the New Directions perform where Kurt was nothing short of a glorified backup singer. WIth no big solo number for Kurt, maybe Carmen Thibodeaux changed her mind and didn’t think Kurt was good enough to get into NYADA. All because of Rachel’s meddling.

Is Finn a Huge Jerk? So at the end of the episode, Finn is driving Rachel to what she thinks is her wedding. Instead, he drives her to the train station and tells her she is going to New York to meet her dads to look at dorms. And oh yeah, he’s breaking up with her and joining the military. Really Finn? Rachel thought she was about to get married and you drop all of this on her?! Not cool. And why was the entire glee club at the train station to see Rachel off? She’s going to New York to look at dorms, she’ll still be in Lima ALL summer. If they should be seeing anyone off it’s Finn, because his uncoordinated self will most likely get shot in the military.

Where Do We Go From Here? So I still am not sure who is going to stay on the show from the graduating seniors. It will make sense to follow Rachel as she is at a musical-based school. But are we going to follow Puck as he launches a pool cleaning business? Or Quinn at Yale? Thank goodness it seems like Santana is going to New York. Hopefully she can move in with Rachel and keep her ego in check. And outside of Brittany/Blaine, are there any interesting glee club members still left in school? And what is Kurt’s backup plan? I feel like he doesn’t have one and will be staying in Lima. I have a feeling most of the seniors will be off the show, except for when they come back for the very special episode of Will and Emma’s wedding. And as long as we keep Santana, I would be fine with that. It will be very interesting to see how they handle the next season. It will either come together nicely or bomb quickly.

Finale Watch: Revenge “Reckoning”

Over the course of this season, Revenge has quickly become my favorite show on television. I think this show has been able to succeed by knowing exactly what tone it is taking on and sticking to it. I love the show so much, I recently went to the PaleyFest panel for the show and got to see the entire cast for myself.

Emily Van Camp signing autographs at the PaleyFest.

At the rate which the show moves through its plot, I think there were high expectations for the final episode of the season. And “Reckoning” did not disappoint. I’m going through some of the biggest shockers of the episode.

The Return of Amanda Clarke. I think this one caught me the most off guard. Just after Emily had broken her engagement with Daniel and was set to tell Jack the truth, does little Ms. Amanda Clarke show up. And pregnant with Jack’s child! I was so heartbroken for Emily in that moment. Even if Jack cared more about Emily than Amanda, he’s the type of guy that is going to stick it out with the baby mama. Also, last we saw, Amanda was in the clutches of Emily’s mentor Takeda. Did he send her back knowing Emily was growing closer to Jack?

Plane Crash. We never saw an explosion but a news report told us that Victoria’s plane suffered an explosion and crashed. She was presumed to be dead, all the work of the White Haired Man. Maybe Emily wished she would have killed him now.

What a nice bookend, with David Clarke being framed for terrorism due to a plane crash.

I don’t for a moment believe that Victoria is dead. She’s way too ahead of the game to be taken down like that. And there’s still so much more to be done with her character. I cn’t wait for the scene where she discovers the truth about Emily Thorne. Now Lydia might be good and gone. I guess we’ll have to wait for the fall to see who survived/died.

Also on death’s door was Charlotte, who overdosed on her pills after learning about her mother’s ‘death’ and being ignored by Declan. Again, I don’t think she’s gone just yet. Luckily Conrad was hanging around to find her. Of course somebody needs to parent that girl! Time to really lay off the pills Charlotte.

Mommy Problems. The final twist reveled to Emily and Nolan that Emily’s mother is still alive. And that the framing of David Clark went far beyond just the Grayson’s. I’m liking both of these twists in the plot. We don’t know much about Emily’s mother and her being alive will give the show a great deal to explore. Was anyone else getting an Alias season 1 feel when Emily was discovering her mother was alive? That led to one of the best seasons of Alias. Hopefully season 2 of Revenge can top this excellent one.

I also like how there is a greater conspiracy to unfold. It gives Emily more targets to revenge then just the Grayson’s and their various friends. It reminds me of how Lost would peel back the layers of the show season by season (there’s other people of the island, Charles Widmore vs. Ben, Jacob vs. the Man in Black). Revenge needs to expand a bit otherwise it would be stuck in doing the same thing. And Revenge is anything but complacent.

A great season finale that leaves me in wait for the upcoming season. I’m excited about the show’s move to Sunday as center of a block featuring Once Upon a Time and 666 Park Avenue. What a great night of television that will be!

If your wondering what song played during that final montage, it’s “Seven Devils” by Florence + the Machine. I thought that whole montage was perfectly edited with a wonderful song. I’ve had it on repeat since the finale.

News Shows I’m Most Excited to See

Last week was the annual television tradition known as upfronts week. Here, each television network unveils their new schedules and shows for the upcoming fall season. Here are the five new shows I’m most excited to see.

666 Park Avenue (ABC)

This show looks to have the perfect mix of creepy and supernatural. Plus it contains an all-star ABC cast including Terry O’Quinn (Lost), Vanessa Williams (Ugly Betty, Desperate Housewives) and Dave Annable (Brothers and Sisters). It will also be airing on Sundays after Once Upon a Time and Revenge. The combination of those three shows could make for perfect Sunday viewing.

Arrow (CW)

Arrow is about the Green Arrow, a popular DC comic book character. Having read the pilot script, I know this series is going to be action packed, with the Green Arrow being a mix between Batman and Jason Bourne. And I’m on board to watch any show that has Katie Cassidy in its cast.

The Mindy Project (FOX)

It’s usually hard for me to get excited about comedies just based off of show premises and short trailers. Normally I need to see how the cast works together and if it is actually funny. But I’m already set to watch The Mindy Project. Mindy Kaling has always been a standout on The Office and I’m glad she’s been given her own show to really show what she is capable of. Plus, her recent book is very funny so I have high hopes for this show. Airing after New Girl will make the perfect Tuesday comedy block.

Revolution (NBC)

Anything coming from JJ Abrams gets a first look from me. This series, set in the future where all technology has gone out, seems very high concept. That means it will either be great right off the bat (Lost) or quickly burn out (The Event, Flashforward). I’m willing to give it a chance to see where it goes.

Last Resort (ABC)

This is another high concept show, about a US submarine that takes over a nuclear missiles and forms its own country after disobeying orders. Again, a big story to tell. The look of the show is amazing. I’ll at least tune in and see where the series goes from here.

Honorable mention goes to ABC’s Nashville, a show I didn’t think I would want to check out, but the clips have me more interested. It also does hurt that it stars Connie Britton.

Pretty Little Liars Rewatch: 1×13 – 1×20

After the “Pretty Little Liars” season 2 finale where *SPOILER ALERT* Mona was revealed to be “A”, I’m taking a look back at the previous episodes to track the actions of “A” now that we know it’s Mona.

There’s a large chunk of the season half of season one that doesn’t feature a ton of “A” action and only has one episode appearance by Mona (1×18 “The Badass Seed”). Rather than go through these Mona-less episodes, I’m going to take a look at the actions from “A” from these eight episodes.

“A” Watch: The main actions of “A”/Mona throughout all these episodes mainly deals with Hannah. After stealing the money that Hannah’s Mom stole from Mrs. Potter, “A” sets Hannah up to various tasks to get the money back. Some of those tasks include:

  • Calling back Hannah’s Hefty Hannah days and forcing her to eat pig-decorated cupcakes while the school jocks make fun of her.
  • Making her dance with Lucas at the Dance-a-thon, leading him on and causing her boyfriend Sean to break up with her.
  • Forcing Hannah to give Ella Montgomery a museum ticket that will expose her to Aria/Ezria’s relationship.
  • After paying Hannah for all those tasks, “A” revealed Hannah’s betrayal to Aria.

It really seemed that “A” was only focused on Hannah for a large chunk of time. Knowing that “A” is Mona, this kind of makes sense. I think Mona was the most mad at Hannah, since Hannah was ignoring her friendship with Mona and spending more time with the other girls. What better way to get back at her, than to knock her back down to when she was Hefty Hannah? That helped remind Mona that she is still on top.

As for forcing Hannah onto Lucas, it caused Lucas to become hurt by Hannah and for Sean to breakup with her. What better way to get some of Hannah’s attention back than by breaking up her relationship? And especially if Lucas got hurt along the way.

Finally, Mona/”A”s plan of turning Aria against Hannah actually seemed like a good idea. All this time, “A” has only brought the girls closer together against a common enemy. For once, “A” was able to drive a wedge between two of the girls. Of course it was a short-lived fight, but it was still an accomplishment for Mona. Very interesting how she was so focused in on Hannah for a long stretch of episodes.

And did Mona kill Ms. Potter?? We see “A” visiting her grave sight, as if she caused the death. Was this to keep Hannah’s Mom from getting caught. Maybe Mona does care more about Hannah than we think. She might have even taken to murder to help her friend and her family.
